Hand Dyed Plum Silk Throwster Waste – Natural Fibre for Spinning, Felting & Crafting
Pure, silk Throwster Waste for Creative Fibre Arts, hand dyed in plum and sold in a 10g batch
(We also have other colours and undyed too!)
A soft, shiny and shimmery alternative to plastic based fibres like angelina.
Our silk throwster waste is degummed, and is versatile, and eco-friendly too! These throwster fibres are perfect for hand spinners, wet and needle felters, textile artists, and mixed-media crafters and have been hand dyed by myself in a mix of blues.
Collected as waste during the yarn making process, this fibre offers a beautifully random texture, it's soft and shiny, and can be used in felting and spinning as well as other fibre arts. We buy in this waste from our supplier in India, and import it here to the UK to give it a second chance at becoming something beautiful! I then hand dye to create colourful addtions to your fibre arts.
Whether you are spinning art yarn, building textured felted pieces, or experimenting with fibre blends, throwster waste gives you maximum creative freedom at an affordable price.
A sustainable, eco-conscious fibre which is reclaimed during yarn production, it helps reduce waste and support conscious crafting.
Are you a hand spinner? The varied textures work especially well for spinners interested in core spinning, tail spinning, and experimental yarns.
Are you a felter? Felters use throwster waste in both wet felting and needle felting. Trial some and you will appreciate it's ability to felt easily in wet felting, needle felting, and nuno felting.
Want to explore fibre arts in more detail? It is highly versatile and can be used on its own or blended with wool roving, batts, silk, alpaca, or plant fibers.

The texture includes varied fibre lengths (staples) and thicknesses - because it's a by product , it is irregular, and the variations in fibre length, texture, and density give it a very desirable characteristic for something a 'bit different'. Perfect for all types of fibre artists who enjoy organic texture and hands-on experimentation.
Hand spinners use throwster waste for art yarns with texture and visual interest, core spinning, and experimental techniques, as well as blending with other natural fibers. Felters use it for wet felting textured surfaces, needle felting sculptural or abstract forms, and layering into felt sheets to create depth and movement. Crafters and textile artists incorporate throwster waste into mixed-media fiber art, doll hair, costume design, surface embellishment, and natural dye experiments.
